Why you should get your business name changed in 2018
Business consultant Michael Green has a message for business owners looking to get their business name altered in 2018: “Get yourself out of the office, get out of that hotel, go to the toilet, get a change of clothes.”
The 26-year-old told Business Insider the advice comes from his personal experience and advice.
“I’m not going to go out there and make everyone go and change their business names,” he said.
“They’re not the people to do that.”
The Australian Capital Territory is looking to move its business name to Melbourne, with business consultant Michael Greenwood advising businesses to get a business name change in 2018 Business consultant Mike Greenwood says businesses should get out to the office in 2018 to get out and get a new business name.
“People are doing it for themselves, so they’re not doing it in a good way,” Mr Greenwood said.
Mr Greenwood told Business News: “I know that a lot of business owners don’t know where to go for advice, and it’s actually the people that don’t want to make the change that are going to make a big mess.”
He said it was not only businesses who were getting the advice, but people working in the community too.
“Businesses are going out there looking for people to look after them,” Mr Green said.
Business consultant and founder of Business Advice Australia, Nick Bannister says businesses shouldn’t change their names in 2018 “Business owners are getting advice that the change should happen.
I think it’s a little bit misguided and it does cause a bit of friction.”
He suggested businesses should make a business change in advance of the changes, and work through a few other options before making the move.
Mr Bannisters advice is a good one, but businesses need to look at the whole picture.
“There’s a whole range of things that can go on with a business, and you need to think about what’s going to be the best for your business,” Mr BANNISTER said.
He said businesses should not try to avoid getting a business changed.
“You can go and go about changing it on the advice that you’ve got, but then you’re also going to have to consider the whole context,” Mr Bollister said.
The business consultant, who is also the CEO of the Business Advice Network, said businesses needed to be mindful of where the advice came from.
“If they’re getting advice from someone who’s been involved in the business and the business is well known in the area, that’s probably going to help, because you’ve also got people who have been involved and they might be able to give you the advice you need,” he added.
Business advice can help businesses improve their branding Mr Bannon said business advice could help businesses get better branding and improve the quality of their brand.
“It’s not always going to come through a formal process, but it does come through the advice,” he explained.
“So if you’re looking to improve your branding, look at how you’re doing it, how are you communicating with your customers, how can you work with your employees and the people in the shop to make your business more appealing and more valuable.”
He added the advice can also help businesses develop their brand through an online platform.
“We’ve seen a lot more online business sites that are more relevant to a business,” he continued.
“Some of the things that are helpful to a lot people is the type of business site that you use to advertise to your customers and then the way that you put your logo on it, the font you use, the colours you use.”
He also said it can help improve the overall look and feel of a business.
“Look at your website and make sure it’s really well done and there’s no design that’s not good, and that your branding is consistent with what your customers want.”
Business consultant, business consultant and entrepreneur Andrew Rainsford said business owners should be aware of the risks of business name changes in 2018
