What is the ‘monkey business’?
It’s a fancy term for a whole range of business activities that have become popular in the past decade: the sharing of information about a business, or the sale of products.
In fact, this is the most common form of business in the internet age, and the one that we’re now seeing more of.
There are a lot of different types of monkey business, but in general, a monkey business is a business that sells information about someone else.
The most common ones are: the ‘buyer beware’ business, which has a seller whose price depends on the seller’s position in the market; the ‘marketing junkie’ business that is based on a single customer who is able to sell you something on a whim; and the ‘whistleblower business’, which uses the power of social media to make money and the power to get others to do the same.
It can be used to target the public, but often it can also be used for other purposes.
If you’re a monkey-business buyer beware, then you’ve got a problem: if you share your information with others, that information will be available to anyone, regardless of how reputable your company is.
A ‘market junkie’: it’s a business where people pay for a service they don’t need because they want to know more about it.
It’s usually a small, independent business that relies on social media.
The ‘whistler’: it might be a small business that wants to get more exposure by sharing its own information, but is not a real business.
An ‘internet whistleblower’: it is a service that wants you to know about problems in a business and share information that would be of benefit to your business.
It might be an organisation like Truth in Advertising, which aims to get you to take a stand on the issue of deceptive advertising.
These are just a few examples of the kinds of business that you can have, but you might not have realised.
So, the question is: what is a monkey?
In the words of the monkey business dictionary, it’s “a person who sells information in exchange for a profit, typically for the purpose of obtaining a benefit”.
And a lot is happening in the monkey world.
I’m a ‘market-oriented’ entrepreneur.
I’m an internet entrepreneur.
In the early days of the internet, I was a big monkey business seller, and then I went on to a different monkey business.
I was the ‘internet-snooping’ monkey.
What’s a monkey in business anyway?
You’re a ‘monkey’ if you: a) know about information, like you do, or b) have the capability to share information with other people.
You don’t have to be a human being, you don’t even need to know how to read a word, you just need to be able to do something with it.
Now, the internet is changing that.
There are millions of internet users, and they’re learning how to use it.
This is changing the way we all do business.
We’re moving away from the old ways of business, where a small number of people are controlling what information we share.
That’s going to change in the coming years.
How do you get a job as a monkey at a new kind of business?
As a monkey, you can start with an idea.
It could be a word-of-mouth, or a simple website.
Maybe you’ll start with the word ‘coupon’, and you’ll use it as an ad on a website.
Then you might start with a simple product or service.
It doesn’t have a name yet, so it might just be ‘give me a quote for this’.
Or maybe you’ll get a simple message in the email, with a link to a product.
Maybe it’s about a coupon.
You just need a little bit of information, and you can do that online.
The more you do it, the more you’ll become a monkey.
